About

Let me guess… you found this website because you or your close one is interested in astronomy – either observing the night sky or better take incredible pictures by themselves – but don’t know where to start. Guess what, you are not alone.

About Dark Sky Lover

Many space enthusiasts today are using amateur equipment to view celestial objects and also photograph iconic space objects/events by themselves from their home backyard, rooftop, terrace or nearby locations.

Welcome to the astronomy rabbit hole – quest for knowing beyond boundaries known to mankind, marveling at the cosmic wonders. Soon you will find this hobby tend to get complicated and expensive very fast.

I know this because I also had the same experience.

From purchasing my first telescope and clicking photos of moon using my mobile 2 buying my first DSLR camera it’s been a long journey as I look back. Along the way I was lucky enough to get some great advice over different blogs forums and YouTube videos however in the hindsight I feel I met some bad choices with my equipment purchase.

My goal with this website is two-fold:

  • On one hand I would like to spread awareness about this primal and wonderful hobby, knowing it can be enjoyed from city also.
  • While on the other hand I want to help avoid others make the same mistakes and save their time or money or both into things which I learned the hard way.

About Jayant Nandy

Milkyway selfie from Mumbai outskirts clicked April’2022

I live in Mumbai, which ranks high in the most air polluted and light polluted cities in the world. I do my astrophotography most of the time from Mumbai city itself and occasionally during weekends I visit city outskirts couple of hours away for better darker skies. My equipment of choice or something that is portable can be used from the city as well as in budget. You can visit my Instagram profile to see images that I have clicked over the past couple of years.

Overtime I have learned what works and what won’t work and accordingly I had to finetune my expectations. It is a very difficult hobby and can be very challenging or frustrating at times. However, the results more than make up for it making it very rewarding hobby.

My other hobbies include reading books, binge watching, following tech news and occasional drawing. Education wise I am IT graduate, MBA in Finance and Chartered Financial Analyst (CFA). I currently work in finance operations. You can connect me over LinkedIN.

To follow a hobby which takes up so much time an energy I’m extremely thankful to have a family who understands and supports me.

Thank you for stopping by and reading through this. Do connect with me via one of the Social Media platforms to share your journey.

Until then – Clear Skies..!! Darker Nights…!!
